report on the free eye-camp held at Chatrapati Pramila Raje
Hospital, Kolhapur, Maharashtra, India. January 30 – February
4, 2003.

Camp
Diary
The site selected for this camp was the Chatrapati Pramila
Raje Hospital, Kolhapur. The city of Kolhapur is situated
amidst the Sahyadri mountain range on the banks of river Panchaganga.
It is surrounded from all directions by rivers. To the east
flows Krishna Ganiki, to the west Shiva and Mayuri, to the
south Veda and Yaksha and to the north Krishna and Warana.
Its at an altitude of 977 meters and is spread over 7,620
sq.mts. Its population of 6,45,657 (1991 Census) mainly speak
Marathi and English. It is approximately 10 hours train journey
from Mumbai. We conducted this camp jointly with the Rotaract
Club of Mumbai Downtown. Here is a day-by-day account of the
camp.
Pre - Camp Surveys
These days were devoted for selection of the camp site, getting
the necessary permissions, cleaning and fumigating the Operation
Theatre and making local arrangements like lodging & boarding
for patients, doctors & our members . This year our target
was to operate on 400 patients which would mean 2 days for
diagnosis & 2 days for the operations. Next
